POMATAMUS SOCKS

As usual I still have trouble finishing things. I began this project on June 20th. These socks are still on the needles - 6 needles to be exact because I am knitting both socks at the same time. I'm using two sets of double pointed needles as you might guess.

The socks are knit with Tess Yarns Super Baby and Sock yarn, a hand dyed delicacy of 75% Wool and 25% Nylon. I purchased it at Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival this year.

The pattern is available as a free download through Knitty.com. What a talented designer Cookie is. She has several beautiful sock patterns to choose from.

Khaki Cables

This beautiful cardigan sweater pattern was published in Winter '06 Knitters Magazine. The yarn is Williamstown by Valley Yarns and distributed by Webs. I found it at Stitches East in Baltimore in November '07. I don't know if the multicolored tweed flecks are visible on the photo, but it is really turning out to be a better choice of yarn than the original Karabella Aurora8 the pattern called for.

The pattern is an easy repeat for the "rope cables" because when the "stag horn" cables are complete every 16 rows, then it is time to do the cable row for the rope pattern.

I have now finished knitting all the pieces and need to block it and stitch it together. Then there is a "front neck band" that is knitted once the fronts are stitched to the back at the shoulders, then a unique frog closure is attached to the fronts.

Stitching all the pieces together continues to be my least favorite thing to do second only to spacing buttonholes. At least this time, I won't have to do the buttonholes.

Getting Started

Just like any other great idea, I've ever known (or had) getting it started can be the hardest thing I do. I've admired other's knitting blogs for awhile now, thinking how beautiful their knitted works of art are; considering their values; and wondering if I was the only knitter in the world that did not have a cat or dog.

If I am that rare - but - avid- knitter that comes from the old school before cyber space drew us all into a global community, I still want to be part of the blogging and knitting group. I'm not a writter, but if ever there was a subject I love to discuss, it's knitting! I can talk about it all day - how relaxing I find it to be, how a great pattern can turn me into a late night knitaholic, how dollar store yarn can be turned into a beautiful work of art at a fraction of the cost, how a thrift store stash of someone's cast offs can be transformed into my next fabulous piece!

Well, there it is. My passion is knitting! I love it - maybe too much! Maybe you do too and want to know how it can be possible for you with the Local Yarn Shop yarn going for $6.00 + per skein. There's lots you can knit without ever going there. Come join me as we explore the frugal knitting options.
